It’s important to speak the same language when it comes to marketing and the reports that come with it. That’s why we’ve put together a little guide for some common terms and definitions that you might hear often in reporting.
Reach
Reach is the total amount of unique users that saw an advert or social post. This means that you may have seen the same thing multiple times but will only be counted for the first time.
Impressions
Impressions are the total amount of times that users saw an advert or post. This means that this includes multiple viewings from the same people and therefore will be higher than reach.
Engagement
Engagement is the total amount of times that people engage with your content through likes, shares, retweets or comments. This does not include link clicks.
CPI
Stands for Cost Per Impression. This measures how many times your ad appears on a site whether or not the users actually sees or interacts with it. This is similar to the marketing term “reach” but reach measures how many people see your content and impressions measure how many times your ad or content was displayed.
CPC
This stands for Cost Per Click. This is the cost to generate a single click result. This helps to inform the effectiveness of the creative used in social posts and adverts.
CTR
This stands for Click Through Rate. When running a social media campaign, the click-through rate shows how many times an ad was clicked on by users.
