What is Content Marketing?

content marketing

Traditional marketing is becoming less and less effective, as consumers don’t want to be constantly sold to. This is where content marketing comes in. Content marketing is providing truly relevant and useful content to your customers and helps them solve their issues.

But what is content marketing?

This type of marketing is the process of planning, creating, distributing, sharing, and publishing content to reach your target audience that will be useful to them without directly selling to them. It boosts factors like brand awareness, sales, reach, interactions, and loyalty.

Examples of content marketing could be how-to videos, infographics, blog posts, podcasts, ebooks or even memes on social media. This blog post itself is a type of content marketing, as it is explaining a topic you may not have known beforehand.

Why use content marketing?

It is important because it answers your audience’s questions and builds trust with your audience, improves conversions, helps you connect with customers, and generate leads.

This should be viewed as a long-term strategy and needs to have a thoughtout content plan to succeed.

  • Step 1: Create your key persona profiles – what kind of content do you need to engage your key target audienc? Your buyer personas will help you define your audience.
  • Step 2: Understand their journey – Different kinds of content appeal to different buyers in different stages of their journey, from pre-sale to post-sale.
  • Step 3: Create your content marketing plan – Planning and creating new content is the most challenging and important part of content creation. A content schedule or planner can help you see when things should be published and advertised to your audience.
  • Step 4: Produce and optimise your content – Make sure your content stays fresh—out-of-date, no longer relevant content hurts your brand’s credibility.
  • Step 5: Measure – Content shares, downloads, and views tell you whether your content is attracting attention, and whether people like what they see. keeping a report of how well each piece of content does will help you quickly see what to replicate and what not to waste time on. Go with what works!
